My dad, Richard B. Mellon was a member of the Aleppo Shriners of Massachusetts.  He was a very active member and at one time the President of the King Philip Shrine Club, which is an extension of the Aleppo Shriners. Shriners Hospitals have been known throughout the world for giving extraordinary and free medical care for children who are burned or disabled. The King Philip Shrine Club’s mission is to generate revenue to support the Aleppo Shriners Hospital Transportation Fund.  Transportation to the hospitals can be a great expense for families as they travel from all over the world, therefore the Shriners organization covers the travel expenses for their patients. For many years revenue was made by our club by hosting a “Lobster Bake” on my family’s property.  My father and mother, Dorothy Mellon, were the driving force behind the preparation for this wonderful but very time consuming function. When my dad passed away in 2009 from lung cancer, I knew I eventually wanted to begin a new event that would raise money for this cause in his honor.  In 2014, with the help of my family and volunteers, I started the Richard B. Mellon Memorial Golf Tournament in effort to support my father’s favorite charity in his memory. Everyone knows that a man is only as strong as the woman beside him.  With the passing of my mother in 2019 from pancreatic cancer, it was time to rename the tournament to honor both my parents and give them the recognition they deserved in supporting the Aleppo Shriner’s Hospital Transportation Fund.  Thru your support, may the proceeds of the Richard and Dorothy Mellon Memorial Golf Tournament help children get to the care they desperately need! -Rich Mellon Proud Son and President of King Philip Shrine Club
